Arm Liposuction Surgery and Essential Recovery Tips

2023-08-30

The arms are a highly noticeable area that moves frequently, making it easy to notice any weight gain or loss. Even a slight increase in fat can make the clothes feel tighter under the arms, and the sagging and jiggling of arm fat can be quite bothersome. Many people turn to various exercises and dietary management as soon as they perceive their arms gaining weight.

However, achieving perfectly slim, sculpted arms like celebrities through self-management alone is challenging. As a result, more people are considering surgical methods to solve their concerns. If you want to slim down your arm line through liposuction, it's important to understand the procedure and recovery. We spoke with Dr. Seo Yongseung from Lesarts Plastic Surgery to learn more.

When Does Arm Liposuction Swelling Peak and Subside?

"Swelling after liposuction occurs because blood vessels and lymphatic vessels are injured during the procedure. It takes about three weeks for these injuries to heal. Swelling increases until about 10 days post-surgery, reaching its peak, and then starts to decrease around three weeks. While individual differences exist, significant swelling typically subsides by two months post-surgery, and the final results can be seen over the following 3-6 months as the remaining minor swelling dissipates."

What Should You Wear on the Day of Surgery?

"On the day of surgery, avoid tight clothing as swelling and pain can limit your movement. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. It's best to wear clothes that don't require raising your arms, such as those with zippers or buttons."

Areas Often Addressed Alongside Arm Liposuction

"Arm liposuction often includes surrounding areas, particularly the axillary breasts, axilla, and scapula areas. Excess fat in these area can blunt the starting point of the arm line, affecting the appearance when wearing tube tops or tank tops. So removing this fat can create a slimmer appearance. "

Why You Should Avoid Straining Your Arms Post-Surgery

"Arm liposuction leaves wounds inside the skin. Excessive use of the arms can interfere with the healing of these wounds. Avoid strenuous or pulling movements and intense massages for a while after surgery. Stretching should be done gently, as forced stretching can hinder recovery."

Bruising Areas After Arm Liposuction

"Vascular injuries during surgery can cause bleeding under the skin, leading to bruising. This can appear not only in the surgical area but also lower down the arm, even extending to the wrist, hands, and fingers due to gravity."

Tips for Wearing Compression Garments Alone

"Post-surgery, compression garments are applied in the hospital, but special care is needed when putting them on at home. Make sure there are no folds in the garment, as folds can create uneven skin contours. Smooth out any wrinkles to ensure an even application."
